Scope and Contents

The collection includes Skagway street scenes, people, scenics and vessels; photographs of the White Pass and Yukon Railway route and personnel; views taken at Klukwan. Other sources of Barley’s work include the Paul Sincic Collection, PCA 75, an inventory of photographs at the Yukon Archives, Box 2703, Whitehorse, Yukon Y1A 2C6, and a collection owned by Robert T. The collection contains photo postcards and photographs taken by or collected by William Barquist. The collection includes views of Treadwell, Juneau, Douglas, Southeast Alaska, and the Kennecott Mine, 1895-1935. Other photographers represented in the collection are: Winter & Pond, Thwaites, Olsen, Leo Smith.

The collection contains materials dating from ca 1803 until ca 1828; it includes photocopies of inventories from the Peter-the-Great Museum of Ethnography, a copy of the entire Kruzenshtern Collection (Fond 1414) from ENSV Riiklik Keskarkhiv (Central State Historical Archive of the Estonian SSR, Tartu), unpublished works by Evgeniia Blomkvist and other articles and unpublished essays.

Case records include: name, date of admission, diagnosis, treatment, and result; includes autopsy records on death of Will Rogers and Wiley Post, August 15, 1935.

The collection includes glass plates, diaries, letters and photographs some of which relate to Henry C. Barrows’ time on the U.S. Revenue Cutter, Grant, in the Aleutians and Pribilofs. The Grant was part of the Bering Sea Patrol from 1895 through 1900. The diaries include his voyage to Alaska on the Grant which left Port Townsend, WA, May 21, 1896 and returned to Seattle Sept. 29, 1896. It called at Sitka, Unalaska, Sand Point, Attu, Dutch Harbor, Kodiak Island.

Scope and Contents Herem photographed the Whale House screen and house posts in the late summer of 1994 during the time it was housed in Seattle, and made the images available to museums and libraries. The five images show close up detail of sections of the house posts and one full image of the screen.
