Scope and Contents

The collection contains materials dating from ca 1803 until ca 1828; it includes photocopies of inventories from the Peter-the-Great Museum of Ethnography, a copy of the entire Kruzenshtern Collection (Fond 1414) from ENSV Riiklik Keskarkhiv (Central State Historical Archive of the Estonian SSR, Tartu), unpublished works by Evgeniia Blomkvist and other articles and unpublished essays.

Historical

Over the course of 25 years and on 15 separate visits to the USSR, Professor Glynn R. deV. Barratt (Carleton University of Ottawa, Canada) collected a large body of Russian materials, some of which are found in this collection. Notably, Barratt collected Alaskan materials from the central state archives of Leningrad and Tartu in 1987 and the State Russian Museum, Leningrad.

This collection was purchased by the Alaska State Library Historical Collections from Professor Glynn R. deV. Barratt, Carleton University at Ottawa, Canada, on 09/10/1990. ( Accession number: 1990-054). Manuscript, The Battle of Sitka, 1804: A Kind of Victory added from backlog (Acc. 2010-11).

Processing Information

Items placed into pH-neutral folders and archival container. Collection described at folder level. Barratt’s original descriptions and ordering system left intact and continued.
