Scope and Contents Earl Rossman inscribed these views to Karl Thiele, a friend and Alaska pioneer who served as Secretary of Alaska from 1925-1933. The collection contains photographs primarily of Dutch Harbor-Unalaska region. There are photographs of whale butchering, native Alaskans in Savoonga and Gambell on St. Lawrence Island. There are also photos of King Island, U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Shosco in Juneau, and a few postcards including one of the Post-Rogers airplane disaster. Thompson was probably in Alaska in 1938-1939.

The collection contains black and white photographs of adolescent students and student activities at the Eklutna Vocational School, where Paul Thompson taught during the late 1930’s. Most of the students are identified. The collection contains many scenic color slides of glaciers, totems, landscapes, mountain ranges in locations throughout Alaska – the Interior, South Central, the Aleutians, the Pribilof Islands, and Southeast. The slides begin at number 146.

The album is a collection of photographs by William H. Case and Herbert H. Draper. Many of the photographs are of places and subjects of interest in the Juneau, Sitka, Wrangell, and Ketchikan areas in Southeast Alaska. The collection spans the years from 1886-1913.

Content Description The collection primarily includes photographs and negatives. Correspondence, stationery, photographic manuals, programs, newspapers and other papers relating to military life comprise the remainder of the collection. Photographs are largely of the Aleutian Islands, but they also trace his progress by ship from the San Francisco Bay Area north along the coast to the Aleutians. Photographs taken in Alaska by Winfield Scott Tilton, between 1951 and 1960, while he was employed by the Alaska Road Commission and later the Bureau of Public Roads.
