Navy man Timothy O'Shea’s eight pages of diary entries from January 1, 1942 to August 23, 1943. The entries describe his participation in the United States attack on Japanese positions on the Alaskan islands of Attu and Kiska.

The collection (1914-1944) contains thirteen 5 X 7 black and white and sepia images which are also reproduced on compact disk. Each picture has a handwritten description attached to the back. The pictures span the residence of the Osterberg family in Douglas, Alaska, between 1914-1944.

Scope and Contents 201 color slides from 30 years of archaeological work in western Alaska, the Kuskokwim River Region, and Iceland. From Wendell Oswalt’s personal notes about slides in this collection: “The North Star was a small wooden B.I.A. vessel that played an important role in early South Pole explorations. They assembled an airplane on board to make the first flight over the South Pole. There are numerous published accounts about the flight.” [referring to slides 118-119]...

Black and white photographic prints of travel through lower Southeast and Southwest Alaska, Orcas Island, and Metlakatla, 1889-1919. Native Alaskan villagers and villages, landscapes, glaciers, railroad, early automobile, hunting camp, moose, bear and big horn sheep, porcupine, walrus. Photographer or collector unknown.

Also included in the collection is the three part article “The Diary of An Alaskan Trip” by R.J. DeLano who was a member of the hunting trip to Alaska.

This collection consists of a single 9.75” x 7.5” scrapbook, 36 pages, with a hand-painted wood panel cover bound by string. The scrapbook contains correspondence, announcements, photographs, and records belonging to Mr. and Ms. Paine covering their courtship, marriage, and Mr. Paine’s fatal aircraft accident.

Southeast Alaska Presbyterian Records, 1793-21st Century. The CD holds 120 documents containing histories, biographies, and bibliographies related to the Presbyterian Church mission in Southeast Alaska from 1793 through the 21st Century, with the bulk before 1930. The text is organized chronologically, by town or by subject, and alphabetically.
