William G. and June Paine Scrapbook, 1942
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of a single 9.75” x 7.5” scrapbook, 36 pages, with a hand-painted wood panel cover bound by string. The scrapbook contains correspondence, announcements, photographs, and records belonging to Mr. and Ms. Paine covering their courtship, marriage, and Mr. Paine’s fatal aircraft accident.

Biographical
William George Paine was born December 13, 1914 in Stacey, Montana. June Denham, from Fairbanks, Alaska, worked at the Heat and Light Department of the Northern Commercial Company in Fairbanks. Later she worked as the head of the Selective Service System of Nome, Alaska. Mr. William George Paine and Ms. June Denham were married outside of Fairbanks on August 1, 1942.
Mr. Paine piloted a total of 8 months for Wien Airlines, flying in and out of Nome. On September 30, 1942 he was piloting a flight that crashed on the Nulato River outside of Galena, Alaska. The crash killed him and his three passengers, Frank Widegar, and Mr. and Mrs. James Keenan. No further information is currently known about Mr. and Ms. Paine.
