Osterberg Family Collection, 1914-1944
Scope and Contents
The collection (1914-1944) contains thirteen 5 X 7 black and white and sepia images which are also reproduced on compact disk. Each picture has a handwritten description attached to the back. The pictures span the residence of the Osterberg family in Douglas, Alaska, between 1914-1944.

Biographical Note
Charles Peter Osterberg came to Alaska in 1909 with his sons Charles Jr. and Arthur. Arthur was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1888. He worked as an electrician in the Treadwell Mine on Douglas Island.
On Alaska Day, October 18, 1911, Arthur married Grace Viola Johnson. Arthur built a house in Douglas and when they married they lived in it. Arthur and Grace had two children while living in Douglas. Their son Herb was born May 6, 1913 and their daughter Grace was born August 2, 1914. About March 1917, Arthur moved to Arizona. His family followed in April 1917. Arthur died in Tucson in 1956 and Grace died in California in 1975.
