Scope and Contents The Skinner Foundation (Alaska Steamship Company) photograph collection covers steamship activity in Alaska from 1898 until shortly after World War II. The 33 volumes that make up this collection cover subjects such as steamships, transportation, tourism, and Alaska towns and locations. This collection also contains Gold Rush photographs taken by various photographers at the turn of the century. The Library file includes photocopies of the scrapbook of Alexander Malcolm Smith, loaned by his wife, Ann (now King) of Seattle, and his son Malcolm Alexander.

The Kathleen Lopp Smith Family collection contains 53 black and white and color commercial postcards of Southeast Alaska, South central Alaska, the Aleutian Islands, and the Yukon Territory. Four of the postcards look like private photos printed on postcard stock.

The images are from Sitka and the majority are credited to The Photo Shop Studio. Images of two Tlingit elders, William Wells and Jim Jacobs, in traditional costume, are included. Scenic views of Sitka and the surrounding area and a few snapshots of businesses make up the remainder of the collection.
