Twelve glass plate negatives containing images of Skagway, Nahku Bay (Long Bay), and Lake Bennett, circa 1890s to 1900s. Photographer surname on two photos is engraved as “Ford.”

Biographical Note
Curtis Shattuck graduated from the Juneau High School in 1924. He graduated from the University of Washington School of Journalism, dropping out of school for one year to become a reporter on the Juneau Empire. After graduation, he edited a small weekly newspaper in Seattle for three months, returning then to rejoin the Empire. In 1930, he joined his father in the insurance business. Throughout his several decades in the insurance business he was very active in both the Juneau Chamber of Commerce and local, state, and national insurance agents associations.
In 1971, he became the first president of Shattuck & Grummett, Inc. when the Grummett Insurance Agency merged with Shattuck Agency, the oldest agency in Alaska, having been in business since 1898.

Acquisition
Donated to the Juneau-Douglas City Museum (JDCM) by Roger and Terry Shattuck of Juneau, Alaska, in January of 2008. Donation transferred to the Alaska State Library Historical Collections by Addison Field, JDCM Curator of Collections, on January 23, 2008 (Acc #2008-001.)

Processing Information
Glass plate negatives were inspected by Ron Klein, photographer, of Juneau, Alaska, at JDCM. Negatives housed in pH-neutral sleeves with cracked and or broken negatives addressed individually. The negatives were scanned by Historical Collections staff, with digital prints created. Item-level description.
