Content Description This collection contains black and white photographs and 39 copies of photos taken and collected by the William G. Beattie family during their time in Alaska. The photographs are well labeled and include many names of people living in Southeast Alaska villages as well as many scenery and village views. Scope and Contents The Becker Collection contains over 300 contact prints selected from approximately 322 nitrate and safety negatives. The photographs vary in size (4x5 to 5x7 to 8x10), some are hand (tinted) colored. Also in this collection is a folder of documents that includes a newspaper photograph and article concerning the last photograph ever taken of Will Rogers which was taken by Becker. Scope and Contents

The photographs, from the 1890’s to the 1900’s, are part of a photograph album which also contains images from Egypt. The album may have belonged to Lillian's father who was with the National Art Co. The Alaskan images include Sitka, the Greek Russian Orthodox Church in Sitka, Muir Glacier, mining activities in Nome and some of images of the Becker's. Information in brackets was supplied by the librarian.

Eleven photographs taken between 1941 and 1946 by Elva Bedford and others, and used as postcards. The negatives (presumably copy negatives) were made by Glen McCreary who was temporarily stationed in Nome in 1944. These images depict scenes of daily life in Pt. Hope.

The Carl (Carlson) Behring photograph collection is an album made by a miner who came to Alaska around the turn of the century. Most of the photos are in the Fairbanks area and many are along the Chena River and Circle. Possibly some photos are along the Yukon River.
