Scope and Contents

The photographs, from the 1890’s to the 1900’s, are part of a photograph album which also contains images from Egypt. The album may have belonged to Lillian's father who was with the National Art Co. The Alaskan images include Sitka, the Greek Russian Orthodox Church in Sitka, Muir Glacier, mining activities in Nome and some of images of the Becker's. Information in brackets was supplied by the librarian.

Eleven photographs taken between 1941 and 1946 by Elva Bedford and others, and used as postcards. The negatives (presumably copy negatives) were made by Glen McCreary who was temporarily stationed in Nome in 1944. These images depict scenes of daily life in Pt. Hope.

The Carl (Carlson) Behring photograph collection is an album made by a miner who came to Alaska around the turn of the century. Most of the photos are in the Fairbanks area and many are along the Chena River and Circle. Possibly some photos are along the Yukon River.

The 37, 5 x 6 cm. black and white contact prints cover a wide variety of subjects and locations, including Eskimos, wildlife, and scenics. Negatives are both black and white and color.

Scope and Contents The Joseph Bernard Photographs include ethnographic views of Native Alaskan and Siberian communities, villages and housing (barabaras) from 1901-1924 and include scenes of people, families, birds, seal hunting, walrus and whales. The photos also include pictures of sail powered ships trapped and crushed in the ice.
