Scope and Contents

This small collection contains photographs of Fairbanks businesses, the old Chena River Bridge, sunsets, wild flowers and a 3-hour timed exposure of a sunset in which the moon created a streak across the sky. Additional photographs were donated in 2005 from the William T. Dunn Estate. William Dunn’s mother was Kathleen Pearl Welden; Joseph Welden was Dunn’s great uncle.

Scope and Contents This collection includes Florence Carr Wendt's scrapbook which documents her travels in memorabilia and photographs. Her trip also inspired a manuscript, “Life Along the Yukon as seen by a tourist in 1935,” which she described in her last will and testament as an "interesting and of-historical-value account of ship-rail-boat travel, about life styles, politics, natives and tourists and local color, geography from Seattle and Seward to Fairbanks, up the Yukon River to Whitehorse and back to...

The Werner Papers consist of three folders representing Werner’s interests from 1937 - 1951. Two folders contain monthly bulletins and other items of the Juneau Ski Club, 1937 - 1949. The third folder contains mimeograph copies of correspondence and treasurer’s report for the Alaska Logging Association for the year 1951. Photographs and other papers form a separate collection, PCA 3.

Scope and Contents Images of the Juneau Ski Club, activities and members are shown in the Juneau and Douglas areas, and other skiing locations outside of Alaska. Contains a folder of information gathered during the planning and construction of Juneau's golf course, "the Million Dollar Golf Course," or "Sandblasters Club" first envisioned by Werner. The photographs are primarily of Loran (long range navigation station) stations during the 1940s and early 1950s. Places include Umnak, Naknek, Cold Bay, Annette Island, Cordova, Yakutat, Gustavus, and Sitka.

Photographs used by Western Airlines to promote travel to Alaska. Included are airplanes, from the 1920’s to the ‘60’s, communities and towns around Southeast Alaska, totem poles and carving, boats, ships, mining. An aerial view of the old Douglas Island bridge is included.

Many of the photographs in this collection were taken by Roy Wheat when he was stationed in Alaska during WWI. The images are of Nome and Interior Alaska; the date range is 1917-1940s. Most of the photographs are carefully identified. There are also photographs of Captain Roald Amundsen, Norwegian explorer (1920), when he came through Nome.

This collection contains views of Southeast Alaska, British Columbia, and Chilkoot Trail, ca. 1899-1902. The images in the albums show the beginning of the trip to Alaska about 1898; Skagway, Dyea, White Pass scenes during the Gold Rush; Juneau and area scenes and activities 1899.

White's, from his service on the Steamer THOMAS CORWIN, which covers lifesaving station management in California, Oregon and Washington.The James T. White papers consist of records and journals kept from 1900-1902, while he served as surgeon and quarantine officer on the U.S.S. NUNIVAK. The papers describe life at St. Michael and include a descriptive account of the cruise in 1900 up the Yukon River to the winter...
