This collection of photographs records the damage done to Fairbanks and surrounding areas at the time of the Chena River flood in August of 1967. The river, which runs through the city of Fairbanks, flooded buildings, covered streets and damaged bridges. The Elliot and Steese Highways and the Chena Hot Springs Road sustained roadbed and bridge damage due to the flooding. A preliminary report, written by Gene O. Hanna is included with the photographs.

In 1948, the USCG NORTHWIND departed Seattle to head up the Bering Sea Patrol. The patrol was responsible for improving the Coast Guard navigation outposts in the Aleutian Islands, replenishing food and fuel supplies and providing mail service.
