The collection includes contracts, agreements, permits, correspondence, and certificates from the Alaska Juneau Gold Mining Co., Hirst-Chichagoff Mining Co., the Perseverance Mine, and the Pacific Coast Steamship Co. Some of the original documents are housed with the Gastineau Channel Historical Society. Although the documents are in the 1903-1959 time period, the bulk of the collection is from 1912-1915.

Scope and Contents The files were kept by the Gastineau Pioneers Book Committee as they compiled information on Juneau families for the book, Gastineau Channel Memories, 1880-1959. Files contain correspondence, articles and, sometimes, photos sent by families for inclusion in the book. Each family’s file also includes a draft of the story’s form as condensed for use in the book. Includes Alaska Gastineau Mining Co. records of expenditures and construction costs, data on paper mill possibilities and development of Salmon Creek Dam, and correspondence for Alaska Gastineau Mining Co. and Chichagof Development Corp.

Scope and Contents Cyrus Kingsley Gates collected these postcards at age 15 on a trip to Alaska with his uncle, P. G. Gates, of Pasadena, California, during the summer of 1920. This collection includes correspondence and photographs concerning Fred Geeslin’s work with the Alaska Indian Service, including information and photographs concerning relocation and resettlement of Aleuts to Southeast Alaska, during and after WWII. Also included are images of Juneau, Alaskan villages and landscape, and Geeslin family portraits.

Ledger includes applications for mineral patents, Native allotments, homesteads, millsites, mission sites, townsites and others in the Tongass National Forest. Also includes a list of Rights-of-way. Type of patent (homestead, mineral, Native allotment), name of patentee, address, description of land, date/notations, and serial number are listed.

This collection is from an album put together by Irene Chesney McGillvray. It contains postcards and photographs printed on postcard stock of several places in Alaska.

Scope and Contents Many images are those of the Winter and Pond Co., with some by Ed Andrews, Trevor Davis and others. The emphasis is primarily on the Juneau area and Southeast Alaska, including copies of very early views of Juneau. There are also a number of ship views and Alaskan governors’ portraits.
