The collection includes 4 x 5 photos of the construction of the Alaska Highway (the ALCAN), the opening of the highway and dedication. Includes images of riverboats, rafts, railroads, military truck convoys, bridges, equipment, camp life, military personnel, businesses and views of Fairbanks, Dawson Creek, B.C., and Yukon Territory. The photographs are arranged in series: A: Road Construction, B: Opening and dedication, and C: Miscellaneous views. Photographs are individually numbered.

Content Description Views in this collection include the church and graveyard at St. Michael, store and buildings at Nulato, Athapascan Indians, steamboats AURORA, JENNIE M, RESEARCH, SUNFLOWER; dog teams , groups of people, and interior views of cabins and their occupants, as well as fish camps and scenics along the river. The eight Winter and Pond photographs show scenes from the Alaska Juneau Mine employees’ labor strike and subsequent riot, June 24, 1935. (The photographs may also be found in PCA 117, Nos. 146-155).

Content Description The collection includes rather complete records from the Alaska Juneau Gold Mining Company (A.J.) which also includes mines cooperatively owned or purchased by A.J. These mines include Alaska Gastineau (Perseverance), Alaska Treadwell, Ebner, Silverbow (Nowell), Kensington, and Echo Bay. Various other smaller mining operations also gradually funneled into A.J. The A.J. properties, including company records, were eventually purchased by Alaska Electric Light and Power Company....
