With the exception of the 10 Point Barrow Expedition photographs, the collection contains photos taken during A.W. Greely’s five inspection trips to Alaska, 1900-1905, during the construction of the Washington Alaska Military Cable and Telegraph System (WAMCATS) by the Army Signal Corps.

John Greve Photograph Collection: Building the Alcan Highway, ca. 1944
John Greve assembled this collection of postcards and personal photographs to chronicle the building of the Alcan Highway when he was on the scene in 1944. Most of the images show views along the Alcan, with prominent lakes, mountains, and buildings. Also shown are scenes of construction personnel and road-building equipment. There is one set of small commercial photographs of Jasper National Park and one set of color postcards depicting scenes from British Columbia and Southeast Alaska.

This collection of nitrate negatives was found at a garage sale by the donor. They comprise images of several Alaska places including Juneau, mines at possibly the Kenai Peninsula and/or in the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. The negatives also include photos of people. There is some legible text on the sides of the negatives. 6 positives were made from the negatives. Photographer is unknown.

Includes article telling of the Soviet imprisonment of himself and other Alaska Eskimos on Big Diomede, the Russian frontier, when they went to visit Siberian Eskimos, August-September 1948; also includes a letter. written to Gov. Gruening requesting that he find a publisher for the article and requesting aid for his family.
