McCaffrey, Croton-on-Hudson, NY to Doris Ward, Haines, AK in 1978 concerning the donation of the drawings to the Sheldon Museum and comments on her grandfather Aurel Krause, a list of the drawings, and a photograph of Aurel Krause; drawings include: the Chilkat Indian culture, Alaskan glaciers, birds and fish.

Shelby B. Combest Photograph Collection, ca. 1900-1920

Combest photographed the Treadwell mine, Juneau and sites in southeast Alaska including Speel River and Snettisham. He also photographed the 1911 Valdez flood, Copper River & Northwestern Railway, and the Wrangell Mountains. There are a few views of Canada including the White Pass & Yukon route. The collection includes some photographs by Alaskan photographers Elbridge Merrill, L.H. Pedersen and others.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains photographs taken by Ed Conrad during his prospecting expedition to the Klondike, as well as one hand drawn map of Unalaska and Dutch Harbor, and two letters home to Conrad’s wife that were published in the "The Hammond News." In his letters home, Conrad mentions the men he travels with, having to build sluices and cabins, and trade for supplies. All this is captured in his photographs.
