Russian Orthodox Churches in Alaska, Watercolors
It is estimated there have been at least 150 Russian Orthodox Churches in Alaska’s history, with churches built in nearly every village under Russian influence, from Sitka to Attu, to St. Michael, and along the Yukon and Kuskokwim Rivers. 106 of these churches, many of which are no longer in existence, are represented in this collection. Two additional watercolors, of a nautical theme, complete the collection.

Hjalmar Rutzebeck Original Manuscripts, c. 1916
This collection includes pages of original writings that may have been used in Hjalmar Rutzebeck’s publications about his time in Alaska. A letter to Rutzebeck regarding land in Haines he was interested in homesteading is also a part of this collection.
The pages in this collection are difficult to decipher. Two pages are only partial pages and written on the backs of Wanted posters. Some pages appear to be letters, and some appear to be stories.
Sadlier-Olsen Family Collection, ca. 1898-2001 (bulk 1898-1950)
The photographs follow the Olsen and Sadlier families and their lives in Alaska from 1898-1990, but primarily from 1898 to the 1950’s. Manuscript materials include Joe Sadlier’s field notes from his work in the Land Office survey party (Federal), Ryus Drugstore (Ketchikan) notes, correspondence, poetry by Joe Sadlier, and other memorabilia. A taped interview with Joe Sadlier conducted by Marie Darlin, January 7, 2000 and a video of the return of the LST-325 are also included.

Fletcher Greene Sanborn Photograph Collection, ca. 1901-1914
This collection includes images of the Alaska Packers Association (APA) cannery and cannery hospital at Uyak on Kodiak Island, in the early 1900’s. The views were collected by Dr. Fletcher Greene Sanborn and include personal photographs. Other views in his collection include Valdez, Cordova, and the Katmai Volcano.
Iriville Kenneth Sanders Papers, 1924-1925
The contents of this collection include a personal diary recording a ship voyage to Alaska and time spent at Clarks Cannery, plus additional handwritten narratives of the experience. There is also a letter he wrote to his mother on July 14, 1925 while at the cannery, as well as photos of the cannery and surrounding area. Some of the photographs have captions on the back.
