Captain Whitney's career with the Inspection Service took him to many Alaskan ports. The collection of 184 photographs covers numerous coastal communities from Ketchikan to Golovnin Bay, including many views from the Aleutian Islands. There are also views of the Tanana River, hunting and fishing, canneries, ships, Russian Orthodox churches, a voyage on the S.S. DORA in 1907, and totem poles.
