Historical
The Juneau Local organized July 22, 1911 with sixteen charter members. A number of locals were established in Alaska and affiliated with the Socialist Party identified as an economic and political movement uniting the working class.
"In this battle for freedom the Socialist Party does not strive to substitute working class rule for capitalist class rule, but by working class victory, to free all humanity from class rule and to realize the international brotherhood of man."
From the Socialist Party Platform adopted by National Convention, May, 1908, amended by referendum September 7, 1909.
The minutes of the Juneau Local reflect efforts to encourage Alaskans to run for local office on Socialist Party ticket support National candidates, and Alaskan delegate to Congress. Activities include forming a library of literature on socialism, efforts to acquire a lot for a meting hall, monitor polling places, protest against fish traps and Ward T. Bower, Fish Commissioner, etc.
There is no acquisition record for receipt of the minute book, correspondence, financial records, and miscellaneous files from the Juneau Local. They comprise 2 inches of records.
