Maurice J. Chabot Photograph Collection, 1943-1944
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of 44, 8x10 inch, black and white images from the U.S. Army Signal Corps. The images depict the construction of an airport and the surveying and construction of the Alaska-Canadian (ALCAN) Highway during World War II by over 11,000 army personnel and 7,500 civilians.

Biographical
Mr. Chabot received the photographs from the estate of a deceased relative who served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Alaska during World War II. They arrived in a War Dept. envelope with the note, “Lt. Pooler, from the Rebel. Hope you can use these.”

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Maurice Chabot received the photographs from the estate of a deceased relative and donated them to the Alaska State Library Historical Collections in April 1996 (Acc. No 1996-043).
Processing Information
The photographs were numbered, placed in Mylar, and into acid free folders.
