Historical
The Alaska Folk Festival began in the winter of 1974 in Juneau as an evening concert performance by eight musicians, with an audience of a few hundred. The First Annual Southeast Alaska Folk Festival became a regional and then state event. The Alaska Folk Festival eventually extended into a full week of amateur and professional performances and workshops, and features a paid guest artist. The festival is held annually during the second week of April. It is free and open to the public, with an emphasis on providing opportunities to learn about and share music and cultures. The Alaska Folk Festival incorporated in 1984 as a non-profit corporation. More information about the festival can be found online at http://www.akfolkfest.org/.
