Scope and Contents
The Werner Papers consist of three folders representing Werner’s interests from 1937 - 1951. Two folders contain monthly bulletins and other items of the Juneau Ski Club, 1937 - 1949. The third folder contains mimeograph copies of correspondence and treasurer’s report for the Alaska Logging Association for the year 1951. Photographs and other papers form a separate collection, PCA 3.

Biographical
In 1936 at the age of 26, Joseph Werner moved to Juneau from Yakima, Washington. He started an accounting business after working ten years for the U.S. Forest Service. Mr. Werner helped develop sport activities like the Juneau Ski Club, baseball leagues and the Million Dollar Golf Course (this was located south of Juneau on crushed ore from the A.J. Mine). Werner also organized the Juneau Rescue Council. In 1951, he was Secretary-Treasurer of the Alaska Logging Association. He died in Juneau in 1972.
