Biographical
George A. Johnson was born in 1918 in Pittsburgh and reared in Oakmont and Wilkinsburg, PA. As a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, he toured Europe and was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. He married May Elizabeth Cornman while in the service and they had four children. He also helped build the ALCAN Highway in 1943 as a member of the 872 Ordnance H.A.M. Co. and was stationed in Alaska and Dawson Creek, B.C. in 1943-44. While he was there, he sent these photos home to his wife. He returned to Pennsylvania after the war and died in 1996.

Mr. Johnson’s daughter, Loretta Edwards of Irwin, PA, donated the album in December of 1996 (Acc. No. 1997-6).
