Series I: This album belonged to Charles Carlton “Carl” Collen who was a cook/deckhand on board the Juneau boat Yakobi, ca. 1933. The U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey chartered the Yakobi to map and chart areas in the Bering Sea. They went as far as Icy Point, to the Diomede Islands, King Island, St. Lawrence Island, and the Aleutian Islands. At Sand Point the Yakobi ran aground on a sand bar and floated off on the next high tide with no damage or injuries. This charter trip took from Spring until fall to complete. William J. Erskine was a member of the U.S. C. & G. Survey on the charter.
