Abstract
These records are a sampler of several series of records relating to Alaska in Record Group 60 at the National Archives, Washington, D.C. Photocopies were made of general information regarding appointment of federal judges, marshals and attorneys in Alaska; also files relating to specific individuals. There are some examples of examiners reports made in response to problems or routine investigation at Sitka (1888) and Nome (1903).
There is an extensive file of correspondence concerning personnel matters relating to deputy marshals in Alaska's 2nd Division (Nome headquarters) from 1905 1915. These provide some idea of the types of problems faced in administering justice in rural Alaska during the Territorial period.
