Florence Carr Wendt Collection, 1935-1967 (bulk 1935)

 Collection
Identifier: MS 194

Scope and Contents

This collection includes Florence Carr Wendt's scrapbook which documents her travels in memorabilia and photographs. Her trip also inspired a manuscript, “Life Along the Yukon as seen by a tourist in 1935,” which she described in her last will and testament as an "interesting and of-historical-value account of ship-rail-boat travel, about life styles, politics, natives and tourists and local color, geography from Seattle and Seward to Fairbanks, up the Yukon River to Whitehorse and back to Seattle in long-ago 1935.” Menus in the collection, from the S.S. Victoria and S.S. Yukon, depict scenes of Alaska by photographers E. Andrews, H.W. Steward, and woodcuts by Glenn Sheckles. Postcards, postmarked 1967, sent to Florence from a friend or relative who wrote from places in Alaska and the Yukon that Florence herself had visited in 1935 were left in the album (loose) where they were found.
