[This photograph was made at Nanaimo in August of 1868. It shows a typical shed type Coast Salish house constructed by setting split cedar planks between sets of vertical binding poles. The planks overlapped each other top to bottom thereby shedding the rain. Description per Dan Savard, Anthropology Department of Royal B.C. Museum, Victoria, B.C. Canada]
