1944 U. S. Navy baseball team and Sitka Champions.
Scope and Contents
This was a very talented club and is considered to have been one of the finest in the then territory. However, stern opposition came from Artillery teams Battery B; Battery C and Battery D; U. S. Marines; Army Camp Riley; USN Patrol Squadron; Army Infantry A and Infantry C. There were no civilian teams entered in the tough 1944 league, generally considered one of Sitka's finest. Many of the same personnel also played on the 1944 U. S. Navy Sitka Championship team particularly those pictured in the back row of the picture shown here.
