A welder and his helper travel about a quarter-mile down into the section of pipe to weld “38031” and make the necessary repair. Other defects, such as slag inclusion or incomplete fusion, would have required the removal of the weld metal by grinding, re-heating the weld area to be repaired and then re-welding., 1976-07
