This drawing shows a cut-away of the ½-inch-thick walls of the aligned pipe. Note the thirty-degree bevel angle which forms the pie-shaped opening to be filled by the weld metal. The lower 1/16th of an inch of the pipe end is called the root face or “land”. The spacing between the pipes at this point must be 3/32nds of an inch., 1976-07
