SCOPE AND CONTENTS

Locations include towns and villages on the Kenai Peninsula, Kodiak, Interior Alaska, Southeast Alaska. Subjects are many and varied and include airplanes, float planes, Alaska Natives, ships, glaciers, fishing, mining and wildlife. Many of the photo postcards are captioned and/or are inscribed on the versos.

Scope and Contents Black and white photographs of Northern Alaska and Nome, circa 1905-1910, during the gold rush. The bulk of the images are of Charles L. Kemp and Mrs. A.S. Kemp in Nome at the Kemp store, hunting on the Bering Sea, reindeer and dog sleds, school and social gatherings, and theater productions. The photographs primarily concern life in Nome, Alaska, in 1910, but have some pictures of other places in Alaska. The black and white photographs in this collection show democratic presidential nominee Senator John F. Kennedy delivering speeches at various venues in Anchorage and Palmer, Alaska. Other items included are two newspaper articles from the Anchorage Daily Times describing Senator Kennedy’s visit and internet copies of the speeches he gave at the fairgrounds in Palmer, Alaska, and the Edgewater Motel in Anchorage, Alaska.

The collection is comprised of four photograph albums (two partial) and one scrapbook, plus a one page handwritten document and one advertisement printed on pulp, mostly related to the Speel River Project and/or the Alaska Pulp and Paper Company. Localities depicted include Long Lake, Long Creek, Crater Lake, Crater Creek, Speel River, Second River, Tease Creek.
