“Captain Castner of Chilkoot”
This collection contains a 16 page manuscript by William J. Betts, titled “Captain Castner of Chilkoot” and eleven 8x10 black and white images to accompany the manuscript. The photographs depict activities at Chilkoot Barracks, 1935-1937, and Colonel Castner.
Captain George H. Whitney Photograph Collection, 1886-1910
Captain Whitney's career with the Inspection Service took him to many Alaskan ports. The collection of 184 photographs covers numerous coastal communities from Ketchikan to Golovnin Bay, including many views from the Aleutian Islands. There are also views of the Tanana River, hunting and fishing, canneries, ships, Russian Orthodox churches, a voyage on the S.S. DORA in 1907, and totem poles.
Captain Victor Seidelhuber Papers, ca. 1940s
This collection contains several hand drawn maps showing cross sections of headlands and navigational courses, navigational calculations, and hand drawn charts of how to dock a vessel at various Southeast Alaska canneries. The first folder has instructions on how to use the captain’s portable pelorus. There are miscellaneous notes and correspondence regarding his work and a book of tables for navigation.

Grace Fox Carr Letters and Photograph Collection, 1914
This collection contains photocopies of letters written by Mrs. Carr to her brother Ernst and his wife Genevieve Fox and to other family members living in New York. The letters primarily celebrate the birth of their daughter, Wilhelmina, who was born July 1914 in Haines, Alaska. The photocopied photographs are of the Carr family while living in Haines and Porcupine, Alaska, in 1914. Included is a photocopied steamship menu from the S.S. Humboldt.
Verna Hurley Carrigan Photograph Collection, 1880-1945
The photographs and other materials found in this collection reflect the Webster and Hurley families. The collection includes photographs by Winter and Pond, and Landerkin and Winter. Most of the views were collected by Verna’s grandmother, Anna. Ed Webster’s receipts from Juneau businesses were added May 29, 2002, Accession No. 89-27.
