Biographical
Dr. Simpson was unmarried and his parents/family were located in the Ottawa Valley around Ashton, Ontario. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and practiced some years in British Columbia before coming to Alaska in 1886. (Alaska Monthly Magazine, Oct. 1907, p. 55) When Dr. Simpson died in Victoria, B. C. in 1915, his personal library, records and other belongings were saved by family members. Artifacts were donated to the Perth Museum in Perth, Ontario.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
These records were donated to the library on July 10, 1980 by William Duncan of Edmonton, Alberta. His great uncle, Dr. James Kidd Simpson founded the hospital and worked there from 1905 1909 when it was leased to the Sisters of St. Ann.
