Scope and Contents
This journal contains daily entries of work performed and expenses of mining properties on Elephant Creek about 7 miles east of Marshall, Alaska in the Nulato Hills. It also contains a daily diary from 1943-1945 written by an unknown miner who lived in a cabin and operated his placer claims. He describes the weather and his daily activities.

Historical
The donor of this collection states that his father found this journal in an abandoned cabin on the North Slope in 1957.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The collection was donated by Robert Baker to the Alaska State Museum, March, 2004. It was then transferred to the Alaska State Library Historical Collections and is accessioned as 2004-17.
Processing Information
This collection has been described at the item level. The journal was placed in mylar and then into a closed pH-neutral folder due to dry mold on the object. Use of gloves when handling is recommended.
