Scope and Contents
This collection consists of four letters from B. F. Von Behren, president of the Mellen Mining and Manufacturing Co., to Mr. Nathaniel [Greene?] regarding financial matters at Juneau mine claims. Also included is a May 1902 Report that lists supplies used at the mine and a June 1st 1902 inventory of items on hand at the mine.

Berners Bay. Mellen Mining and Manufacturing Company. This corporation, with capital stock of $300,000, has been carrying on development work during the winter. B. F. Von Behren is president, John J. Nolan secretary, Henry Stockfleeb treasurer, all of Indiana, while H. W. Mellen and H. F. Hoggatt are local managers. The group comprises five claims near the Comet mines. Several hundred feet of tunnel exposes two ledges from 6 to 10 ft. wide. The ore is said to average as high as $12 per ton. About 15 men are at work.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The papers in this collection were donated in August of 2004 to the Cordova Historical Society by a person who had found the items inside an old trailer house he was remodeling in Cordova. In September of 2004 the items were transferred to the Juneau-Douglas City Museum. In 2006 the items were transferred from the Juneau-Douglas City Museum to the Alaska Historical Collections Library. Acc. #2006-49.
