This collection contains 9 letters written by Jacob Keffeler while living in Alaska during and after the Klondike Gold Rush. Included are family history documents put together by descendents of Jacob Keffeler.

Biographical
Jacob Keffeler (1850-1916) left Luxembourg at age five. He grew up in Iowa and Michigan. He married Emma Haas in 1881. They had 2 children: Herbert Oswald Keffeler and Meta Nora Keffeler. Jacob traveled to the Black Hills of South Dakota to search for gold. While there he was a miner, merchant and rancher. In 1898 he moved on to Alaska with his son and participated in the Klondike Gold Rush. He lived in Anchorage until just before his death. He died in Sitka at the Pioneer Home, according to an Anchorage Daily Times Obituary (4/20/1917 p.5).
