Content Description

This collection contains 76, 2½” x 3¼” photographs ca. 1900. The photographs are commercial in nature and look to be collected as someone crossed Canada and Alaska. There are photos from Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada; Prince Rupert, B.C.; Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Taku, Juneau, Haines, Skagway, White Pass Route, Alaska; White Horse and Dawson City, Yukon Territory, Canada. Many of the photographs were taken by Winter and Pond Co. One photograph of a Native Elder, Skok-ish-tin, has been added to the Core Photo Portrait file. Two photographs of the Steamship “Whitehorse” have been added to PCA 134a.

Acquisition

This collection was donated to the Museum in Sitka by Georgie and Jennifer Mason. Nancy Ricketts of the Museum forwarded the collection to the Alaska State Library Historical Collections on May 19, 2003. Accessioned as 2002-052.

One photograph of a Native Elder, Skok-ish-tin, has been added to the Core Photo Portrait file. Two photographs of the Steamship “Whitehorse” have been added to PCA 134a.

Processing Information

This collection has been described at the item level. Items have been retained in their original housing of plastic sleeves in a clear plastic box.
