Scope and Contents
The album, titled, "Treadwell Mine Days,” compiled by Mrs. Harry J. Wood, includes personal snapshots and commercial photographs from the Merrill Studio in Sitka and Case & Draper among others. The photographs, taken between 1906 and 1923, show Treadwell, Alaska, the Treadwell Mine, club, stage and natatorium, the first flight over Juneau, President Harding and party in Sitka, and other locations and individuals, perhaps friends and family.

Biographical
Mrs. Harry J. Wood was born Oct. 3, 1882, in Oil City, Penn. She moved to Douglas, Alaska, in 1908 with her husband who worked in the Treadwell Mine. They had one child named Beatrice, born in Douglas in 1913. After the 1917 "Cave-In" at Treadwell, they moved to Chichagof and later Ketchikan. Mrs. Wood enjoyed photography and gardening and was active in the Eastern Star, Ketchikan Hospital Auxiliary, St. John's Episcopal Church and the Pioneers of Alaska. She died Oct. 20, 1967 at the Sitka Pioneers Home.

The album, compiled by Mrs. Harry J. Wood, was donated to the Alaska State Library Dec. 18, 1995, by Mrs. Wood's granddaughter, Paula K. Sampson of Homer, Alaska (Acc. No. 1995-67).

Processing Information
The album was fastened together with pipe cleaners, which were removed, the pages sleeved individually in Mylar and the photographs numbered. An inventory has been created for the images from citations inscribed on some of the pages and information on the photographs.
