Scope and Contents
The Klondike photographs are by Winter and Pond with the exception of two images, unsigned. The collection also includes two small journals with faded pencil entries by Smith.

Biographical
William Smith was born in Rock Springs, WY (date unknown) and came to the Klondike with George Chilton in 1897. William spent the years of 1897-1908 in the Klondike and southeast Alaska (including Juneau). His daughter, Eva, was born in a cabin on the “40 Below Claim” on Quartz Creek. A note in the collection states William Smith was a representative to Wyoming’s 4th Legislature.

The collection was donated by William Smith's granddaughter, Mae Kirkbridge in 1992. Acc. No. 1992-021.

The photos in this collection have been digitized and may be viewed via Alaska's Digital Archives. A portion of the photographs is duplicated in the Winter and Pond (PCA 87) photo collection. Please refer to this collection when ordering copy prints.
