Scope and Contents
The diary of Frederick J. Boyd records his trip from Ypsilanti, Michigan, to Forty Mile, Alaska, via Detroit, Vancouver, Victoria, Seattle, Dyea, Chilkoot Trail, Yukon River, Dawson, Yukon Territory, 1898 March 1 - 1899 July 28. Also included are five newspaper articles from an unidentified newspaper. The five part series of articles, titled “Narrative of a Klondiker”, were written by F.J. Boyd and describe his trip to the Yukon.

Biographical Note
Frederick Boyd was a school teacher who joined a group of men from central Michigan in search of gold in the Klondike. He spent one winter there, returning to the Seattle area in 1899. He remained in Bremerton through most of his working life. After he retired, he moved to Long Beach, California, to live with his daughter, who had been an infant during his Klondike adventure and is referenced along with her mother in the diary.

The collection was a gift from Lincoln M. Isted, grandson of Frederick J. Boyd. Accession number 1997-025.
Processing Information
The diary and newspaper clippings were placed in Mylar and into acid free folders. Photocopies of all materials in the collection are contained in folder 2.
