Biographical Note
Albert A. De Leo was born October 14, 1874, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, to John and Hattie De Leo, the oldest of five children. A brother, Roy, worked in Cordova as superintendent for the Copper River & Northwestern Railway. Albert was in Alaska from July 1909 until January 1914, possibly as an accountant for the railroad during construction. In his spare time he photographed, processed, and sold prints and postcards. He sold many of the prints to men in camp. Little is known of his experiences in Alaska other than what he wrote to family on the postcards. When he left Alaska he went to work for the Milwaukee railroad at Malden, Washington, then as superintendent of the Olympic division where he remained until 1925. He was the timekeeper at the Charles Nelson Mills in Port Angeles when he died on November 30, 1926. He had one son, Tim, born around 1907. Albert De Leo was Leading Knight of Naval Lodge 353, B.P.O.E.
