Content Description
The collection contains 226 black and white or sepia, mostly 3 x 5, images of places, activities, and people in Alaska from 1912-1915. The photographs were taken by Dr. Krulish while he was working for the Bureau of Education in charge of public health services for Indians and Eskimos in Alaska. Although headquartered in Juneau, he traveled all over the Territory including the Arctic region. A few images by commercial photographs include: H. G. Kaiser and Moldt Studio

1911-1915 Detailed to Bureau of Education, with headquarters in Juneau, Alaska, in charge of medical and sanitary relief of Indians and Eskimo
1915, Aug. 30 Married Sarah B. Sydnor (children: Emily May, Marjorie Belle, Robert Charles)
1915-1918 Visited all points in Alaska, including Point Barrow, acted in an advisory capacity to the Governor of Alaska in matters regarding public health; at the Governor’s request drafted and had passed by the Territorial legislature the first complete sanitary code for that Territory, at Seattle, Wash., in connection with quarantine, immigration, medical relief and suppressive measures against plague

Processing Information
The images in this collection were developed on commercial Eastman Kodiak Company 3 ¼ x 5 ½ Velox developing out paper. The original box was retained as part of the collection. The expiration date for the paper stamped on the box is March 1, 1913. The photographs were numbered and housed in mylar sleeves in acid-free containers, and identified from information on the photographs. Librarians supplied missing image descriptions [in brackets]. Most of the photographs include the initials E.K. [Emil Krulish] in the lower right corner; photographer credits by others are also included in this inventory.
