Immediate Source of Acquisition
The collection was donated in November 1993 by Anne K. Boomer, Mary ("Mamie") Mitchell's great niece. Ms. Mitchell took the photographs while on a tour to Alaska in 1894. (Acc. No. 93-30)
Biographical
The photographs were taken by Mary Mitchell ("Mamie") while on a trip to Alaska in 1894, with two friends. She was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri and never married. She traveled often and spent most of her life working for animal causes. Mamie Mitchell died in 1950 at approximately 75 years.
Processing Information
The photographs were numbered and placed in Mylar.
