Biographical
Charlotte Price Mahaffy, a third generation Alaskan, was raised in Treadwell and the edge of her back yard was the famous Glory Hole. In her memoirs, "I Remember Treadwell," she recalls 4th of July parades, ferry trips and attending grade school in Treadwell. She completed the eighth grade in Douglas before her parents moved to Portland, Oregon. The Price name dates back to 1894 in Juneau. John Werrick Price, came to Juneau from Seattle by way of two oversized row boats with auxiliary sails, and homesteaded on Salmon Creek Road. In 1903, he built the first home on what is now known as Norway Point. His son (Charlotte's father), Charles D. Price was a member of the Juneau City Council before moving to Treadwell where he was employed by the Alaska Treadwell Gold Mining Company. Thomas Cyrus Price, Charlotte's uncle, was a member of the Territorial House of Representatives in 1917 and a member of the Territorial Senate in 1919 and 1921. He was district judge in Anchorage from 1928 until 1944.
