Scope and Contents

These papers contain Saroff's notes on his candidacy for Juneau's first Charter Commission, his recollections of the deliberations and decisions of the Commission, of which he was Deputy Chairman, and an article on the Charter Commission written while he was Associate Professor of City Planning at the University of Virginia in the early 1970s.

Biographical

Born in Hollywood, California, in 1933, Ron Saroff attended Antioch College and received his Masters’ of City Planning at MIT in 1961. He came to Alaska in 1963 as research faculty for the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Alaska and was Deputy Planning Director for Anchorage from 1964-1965. He served as State Director of Planning and Research, Office of the Governor, 1965-67 in Juneau before becoming vice-president of Development Research Associates, Economic Planning and Consulting, Juneau and Anchorage, 1967-1969. He left Alaska in 1969.

The papers were collected and donated by Jerome Ronald Saroff. The collection was received May 9, 1994. There is no accession number.
