The photographs in this collection are from the period that John Weir Troy (1868-1942) was Governor of the Alaska Territory, from 1933-1939. Troy was a democrat, and was preceded by George Alexander Parks, a Republican and succeeded by Ernest Gruening, a Democrat. According to Port Angeles Evening News obituaries collected and posted online by the Clallam County Historical Society on Pioneer Families of Clallam County, Troy was “[a]ppointed Governor of Alaska by President Roosevelt in May, 1933, Troy occupied that position until ill health forced him to resign 2 years ago.
