Biographical Note

Jeff Brown was born October 17, 1953 in Santa Monica, California. At the age of 19 he joined the U.S. Coast Guard serving as a boatswain's mate and hospital corpsman. It was in September 1975, during his tour with the Coast Guard, that Jeff came to Alaska.

During the same year Jeff discovered public radio at the Merchants' Wharf Mall in Juneau, began volunteering and "couldn't stop." He assisted in the Alaska Public Radio Network production of CAPITAL CONNECTION. After leaving the Coast Guard in 1977 he joined KTOO-FM and KTOO-TV as a full time employee and was instrumental in the beginnings of this public television station.

From 1980-1983 Jeff attended college at Western Washington University majoring in Visual Communications Education with a specialty in television and photography. Upon graduation he returned to Juneau and began producing post cards. During this time he worked at Juneau-Douglas High School in a technical position. However, he returned to KTOO-FM and KTOO-TV where he has remained as a full-time employee.

Jeff's accomplishments include the production of We Like Kids! -- a nationally-syndicated radio show for children, co-editor of Juneau What -- a satirical newspaper for the Capital City, and compiler of Dictionary of Alaska Terms. He is also a founding member of Alaska Headliners – Today in Alaskan History.

As of July 1990, Jeff is collecting state songs of the 50 states to produce a radio series. His long-range goal is to collect and produce humorous images "from anywhere." Jeff is known for his wit and satirical pranks which continue to amuse Juneau residents.
