Historical
In 1947, a team of five doctors was sent to the territory of Alaska for a one-month survey of the health status of the Native population. Dr. Arthur Bernstein, a well-known Chicago internist, was head of the team appointed by the Advisory Committee of the American Medical Association to the Department of the Interior.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The records were donated by Sidney S. Bernstein, M.D. to the Alaska State Archives in December 1987. They were transferred to the Alaska Historical Collections in November 1992.
Processing Information
The collection was re-organized from its original order (correspondence chronologically and publications by author). Duplicate publications were discarded.
