Scope and Contents

Many of the photographs were taken in 1974 by North Pacific Aerial Survey, Inc. of Anchorage for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and used to document land selection and land claims for the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. The villages photographed were organized at the time under the following Alaska Native regional corporations: AHTNA, Inc., Aleut Corp., Arctic Slope Regional Corporation, Bering Straits Native Corporation, Bristol Bay Native Corporation, Calista Corporation, Chugach Alaska Corporation, Cook Inlet Region, Inc., Doyon, Limited, Koniag, Inc., NANA Regional Corporation, Inc.

Acquisition

In 1985, the Alaska Department of Community and Regional Affairs, Juneau, transferred this series of aerial photographs to the Historical Collections library. They received it over time from the Bureau of Land Management. Acc. # 1985-012.

Processing Information

The folders are arranged alphabetically by the name of the village. The views are not sleeved but are filed in archival folders. The collection is stored in archival boxes. There is a finding aid available to the folder level.
