Biographical / Historical
The photo album belonged to William Duncan’s great uncle, Dr. James Kidd Simpson who came to Alaska in 1886. (Alaska Monthly Magazine, October 1907, p.55) and founded the Simpson Hospital. He managed the hospital from 1905-1909 when it was leased to the Sisters of St. Ann and became St. Ann’s Hospital. Dr. Simpson died in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1915. Dr. Simpson’s hospital records form a separate collection, MS 47-1. Other artifacts were donated to the Perth Museum in Perth, Ontario.
