Scope and Contents

The photographs taken by Mohr, primarily depict military life in the Juneau area in the early 1940’s while he was serving with the Alaskan Defense. Photographs include views of the Mendenhall Glacier, Auke Lake, military aircraft, and the Juneau airport. Gustav Mohr wrote the descriptions; information in brackets was supplied by the Librarian.

Biographical Note

Gustav C. Mohr left Camp Robinson, Arkansas as Second Battalion Headquarters Co., 138th Infantry, 35th Division. When he arrived in Alaska, December, 1941, the 138th Infantry had been re-designated as the Alaskan Defense. Mohr spent two years in Alaska including special duty in Skagway and Juneau. Much of his time was spent building the Juneau airport and the Army installation at Duck Creek Camp.
